The AEI (Asian Energy Institute) is a
network of 16 energy institutes from Asian
countries. These include Bangladesh,
China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan,
Jordan, Korea, Kuwait, Malaysia, the
Philippines, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and
Thailand. Besides, there are 14 associate
members, both within and outside Asia.
The AEI was formally established in August
1989. Its aims and objectives are to
promote greater information exchange;
facilitate sharing and dissemination of
knowledge; undertake research and
training activities that are of common
interest to its members; and analyse
global energy developments and their
implications. T ERI hosts the secretariat
of the AEI at present. The secretariat
publishes a biannual newsletter that
informs the readers about the diverse
research activities undertaken by the
member institutes. Currently, the AEI is
hosting the regional secretariat for REEEP
(Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
Partnership) in South Asia.
