Abstract
Wastewater treatment forms a significant solution towards environmental protection. For effective treatment of wastewater, many adsorbents have been discovered and developed. Among the possible adsorbents, Vietnamese bone char (VNBC) appears to have important application, especially for heavy metals. This study focused on the technology to investigate the possible application of VNBC in removing heavy metals from aqueous solution of the lead (Pb) only and lead and arsenic (As) mixture (called PbAsMix). In particular, it has been found that the main components of VNBC contained the active carbon and the mineral of calcium carbonate-hydroxylapatite with the formula as Ca10 (PO4)5.65(CO3)0.64(OH)3.45. As a result of many active sites, the VNBC product can effectively adsorb the samples of Pb and PbAsMix ion solution. Thus, in this work, VNBC is used as an adsorbent to determine the capacity adsorption in the sample solution of Pb and PbAsMix. The positive research results of adsorption on VNBC have pointed out that a possible application of VNBC adsorbent is used to remove the Pb and PbAsMix ions of waste water solution in industry in the future.
