STORM STORY 16-17

Let’’s call it a...

Earlier, in countries like the US, cyclones were given the names of women only. But now
they are given men’s names too. In Asia, they are given the names of flowers, animals,
birds, trees, and even foods.

The same hurricane or cyclone may have a different name when it reappears after some
years because people who have suffered during a particular hurricane may be upset if they
hear that it is coming again.

Cyclones in the Indian Ocean have
names like Agni, Akash, Sidr,
Jaya, and Zouleha.

Some of the most
destructive cyclones
have been Katrina,
Sidr, Andrew,
and Gilbert.
