mistake me for
the common toad
found there. I am
not the common
toad, for I have
a distinguishing
yellow line on my
back. My name is
natterjack.
I run and don’t hop
I am a nocturnal toad, that is, I am active at night. My flattened body allows
me to go under large rocks or into crevices to rest during the day. I have
shorter legs compared to the common toad, which is why I can’t really hop.
So I run, a bit like a lizard, to get about. I am not that great a swimmer
either, so I prefer being in shallow pools.
