STORM STORY 44-45

The warm atmosphere causes

the oceans to evaporate and
rise up. This builds up more
storm clouds, which cause
heavier rainfall and stronger
winds. Tropical cyclones build
over warm seas, which give
cyclones the energy to become
bigger, more violent, and
more frequent.

As the earth warms, the ice in
the polar regions and on the
mountains begins to melt, and
the levels of the oceans start to
rise. With heavier rainfall and
rising water levels, there are
more instances of flooding all

The use of fossil fuels and the resulting emission
of pollutants from factories and vehicles are
causing global warming.

More tropical cyclones…

Tropical cyclones in the Indian Ocean normally form in the
months that have no monsoons. But in June 2007, there was a
cyclone, for the first time ever, in a monsoon month.

Also, with increase in the water levels of seas and oceans,
there will be more possibility of tropical cyclone storm surges
in many parts of the world.
