Siberian crane
Flute music
I am a large white crane, but my head, bill, and legs are red. Younger cranes have
cinnamon-coloured feathers. My eyes are yellow. Male cranes are usually larger
than female cranes. My voice is like that of a flute and is considered very musical.
Migratory bird
I am a migratory bird. In the cold winters (October–November), I fly from Russia
to warmer lands like China, India, Kazakhstan, and other places in Central Asia. I
return to Siberia in March, when the chilling Russian winter ends. In summer, I live
close to shallow pools of fresh water. I feed on shoots, roots, and seeds. Some of
my friends eat insects and fish in the water. We build a large mound of grass to live
in. Our breeding season is from May to June, when female Siberian cranes lay two
eggs each.
C
haracteristics Mi gratory; Diurnal
Do you know where Russia is? Yes,
the big country close to the North
Pole. Siberia is a part of Russia. I, the
Siberian crane, call it my home.
