the past
The Bengal florican was
rediscovered in Cambodia
as recently as 1999. Sadly,
it is already rapidly
decreasing in number.

Praying for time
Several protected parks in the
Terai ensure that our homes are
not taken by cultivators. The Chitwan
National Park, Royal Bardia National
Park, and Sukla Phanta Wildlife Reserve
in Nepal and Kaziranga, Dibru-Saikhowa,
and Dudwa National Parks in India are
some of our safe havens. The government
is now marking areas, called integrated
farming and biodiversity areas, where both
farmers and we can live together without
hurting one another. In Cambodia, too,
land has been marked out where I
am protected.
